This video presents an evidence-based overview of molar incisor hypomineralisation (MIH), a developmental defect in enamel. It covers relevant terminology, the prevalence of the condition, and diagnostic and management considerations for pediatric patients with MIH.

Molar incisor hypomineralisation is a developmental defect in enamel caused by a disruption to amelogenesis when first permanent molars are developing. Other teeth such as incisors and second primary molars can also be affected. Dentists should be aware of the terminology and how to diagnose MIH compared with other developmental conditions. Deciding on the management of MIH must take into account the temperament and behaviour of the individual child, consideration of caries risk factors, and orthodontic assessment.
