Using Photography to Improve Treatment Planning

with Dr Hamza Malik

Good photography does more than document a case.

It helps you see what is really happening, communicate more clearly with your patient, and build a treatment plan with better structure from the very beginning.

Join Dr Hamza Malik for a free masterclass exploring how to use dental photography as a practical tool for diagnosis, communication, treatment planning and case review.

You will learn the essential photos to capture, how to approach camera settings with more confidence, and how to use images to support more structured, minimally invasive treatment planning.

By the end of this masterclass, you will understand how to:

• Know which clinical photos to take and when to take them

• Understand the fundamental principles of dental photography

• Set up your camera settings with more confidence

• Use photography to support diagnosis and treatment planning

• Build a more structured approach to planning cases

• Review cases more clearly using photos

• Communicate treatment options with patients using visual records

Photography is humbling. It has been one of the greatest teachers in improving my dentistry because it shows you what you might otherwise miss. It helps you assess your own work more honestly, understand cases more clearly, and plan treatment with a more complete picture in front of you. This masterclass is about using photography not just as a record, but as a tool for better clinical thinking.

Anterior Composite: Shape, Polish & Light - Practical Strategies for Predictable Aesthetic Success

with Dr. Sam Cope

Anterior composites rarely fail because of the material. They fail because of shape and light.

Small errors in line angles, contour and surface texture can make restorations look dull or artificial, even when shade and bonding are correct.

In this masterclass, Dr Sam Cope will share a practical framework for controlling shape, polish and light reflection to create natural, predictable anterior composites across different systems.

Clear principles. Repeatable decisions. More consistent aesthetic results.

By the end of this masterclass, you will be able to:

  • Identify why anterior composites look dull or unnatural

  • Control light reflection through shape and surface design

  • Improve polish and finishing for long-term aesthetics

  • Achieve faster, more consistent outcomes

“Early in my career, I believed aesthetic success came from using the ‘right’ composite or layering technique. Yet despite good bonding and accurate shade selection, some restorations still looked dull or unnatural. The turning point came when I shifted my focus from materials to shape, surface texture and light interaction. By simplifying my approach and understanding why restorations looked wrong, my results became far more predictable and efficient. This lecture reflects those lessons from practice and teaching.”
